Higher Kiegwin Farm

About This Project

Asked by the owners to help them with this 12 acre scrub willow woodland in 2009; we have worked closely together to create a working willow coppice growing 6 – 10cubic metres of woodfuel for the farm each year and increasing biodiversity, including Canada Geese and otters!. Managed with ‘Re-Wilding’ principles in mind the woodland is managed with the help of animals where wood is extracted using ponies and scrub is controlled using a combination of scything, cattle & pony grazing. A range of outdoor education projects has been delivered with local schools and to help the farm finances a wild camping campsite was created on the edge of the woodland with 3 camping pitches and a gypsy caravan, ‘Pearl’.
